Our Package

  • After School Academic Mentoring for K-12
Students receive individualized, literacy-based instruction twice a week from two trained mentors who partner with a student for the entire school year or longer if they wish.
  • High School Curriculum
Our high school curriculum has 3 components:

1) Leadership Training – A progressive program that trains high school students how to become mentors themselves.  Students will be paired with younger students to gain experience in mentoring.

2) College and Career – A curriculum that gives an in depth look at the gifts, talents and desires of students to determine possible careers and avenues of higher education. It allows students to do extensive research regarding possible careers and colleges. This program also provides opportunities for job shadowing potential careers.

3)  Study Skills – A multi-parted curriculum to prepare students for success in high school.  Topics covered include goal setting, time management, class participation, note-taking, and writing tips.

4)  SAT Vocabulary Prep – A skills-based curriculum that focuses primarily on SAT Vocabulary and question preparation to enhance student test-taking skills. It will also explore various techniques and tips for tackling the SAT.

  • Enrichment Activities and Field Trips
Students regularly engage in activities to expand their horizons about life, education, and culture. We have offered on-going dance lessons for students, participation on a basketball team, and summer reading and sports enrichment programs. Each summer, students also experience a week-long camp trip where they enjoy horseback riding, archery, swimming, etc.  Field trips are also a part of our incentives program to reward students for their hard work and keep them enthusiastic about learning.
  • Parent Leadership Teams and Training
Parents of our students are given the opportunity to serve on leadership teams that meet once a month.  These teams meet with the program coordinators to plan for major events, discuss concerns and opportunities for the program, and discover new ways for all participants to take ownership in the program.  We have also created training materials to equip parents in their role of educating their children in the home.
  • Mentor Training Curriculums
While all of our volunteer mentors receive a 2 hour initial training, we feel that it is necessary to continue equipping them throughout the year.  We have developed several on-going trainings for our mentors that include topics such as “Beyond Mentoring” and “The Art of Mentoring.”  We also provide mentors with resources such as readings and current articles to enhance their knowledge and abilities.
